What is Ibuprofen (Ibuprofen) and how is it used?
Ibuprofen is an over the counter medicine used as a pain reliever and fever reducer associated symptoms of inflammatory disease, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and menstrual cramps. Ibuprofen may be used alone or with other medications.
Ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug or NSAIDs.
It is not known if Ibuprofen is safe and effective in children younger than 6 months of age.
What are the possible side effects of Ibuprofen (Ibuprofen)?
Ibuprofen (Ibuprofen) may cause serious side effects including:
- vision changes,
- shortness of breath or feeling light-headed,
- swelling in your hands or feet, face or tongue,
- rapid weight gain,
- skin rash that is red or purple with blisters,
- bloody or tarry stools,
- coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds,
- nausea,
- upper stomach pain,
- itching,
- feeling tired,
- flu-like symptoms,
- loss of appetite,
- little or no urinating,
- dark urine,
- clay colored stools,
- yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice),
- rapid heart rate,
- trouble concentrating,
- fever, and
- burning in your eyes
Get medical help right away, if you have any of the symptoms listed above.
The most common side effects of Ibuprofen (Ibuprofen) include:
- nausea,
- vomiting,
- gas,
- bleeding,
- dizziness, and
- headache
Tell the doctor if you have any side effect that bothers you or that does not go away.

INDICATIONS
Purpose
Pain reliever/fever reducer
Uses
- temporarily relieves minor aches and pains due to:
- headache
- the common cold
- toothache
- muscular aches
- backache
- menstrual cramps
- minor pain of arthritis
- temporarily reduces fever
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Directions
- do not take more than directed
- the smallest effective dose should be used
- adults and children 12 years and over: take 1 tablet every 4 to 6 hours while symptoms persist
- if pain or fever does not respond to 1 tablet, 2 tablets may be used
- do not exceed 6 tablets in 24 hours, unless directed by a doctor
- children 12 years: ask a doctor
